2011 Blog Cabin to Feature Simonton Windows

One of DIY Network's most popular television shows, Blog Cabin, will feature Simonton windows throughout its 2011 show project home!

For its fifth season project, Blog Cabin 2011 will involve the renovation of a 1905 farmhouse-style structure located in Susan, Virginia. The dilapidated home sits on 14 acres of protected wetlands and has stunning Chesapeake Bay views.

Popular DIY Network host Matt Blashaw (who also hosts Money Hunters, Project Xtreme and DeConstruction) will supervise the massive rebuilding effort that starts during the first quarter of 2011. A licensed contractor, Blashaw is a realtor and home builder in Orange County, California, so this exposure to Simonton products may help influence his company's window purchases in the future.

What makes Blog Cabin unique is that people worldwide log on to the show's web site to vote on the design features and products that go into the home. While we know Simonton windows will be featured in the Blog Cabin, the voters will decide the style of windows and what Decorum features are used in the rebuilding effort.

This project is ideal for Simonton because it focuses on the benefits of replacement windows and the unique features we offer. Many of the windows in the three-level home are original --- dating back to 1905. When the construction team rips the house down to the studs to start the rebuilding effort, some of the original glass may be repurposed for decorative use in the house. But, the all-new Simonton windows will be energy-efficient and lend themselves aesthetically to the overall new design of the home.

Want to get a sneak preview of the home? Walk through Blog Cabin 2011 with Matt by clicking on http://www.diynetwork.com/videos/advance-look-at-the-cabin/62423.html. And to see interior and exterior pictures of the home go to http://www.diynetwork.com/blog-cabin/blog-cabin-2011-first-look-exterior/pictures/index.html.

What makes this a truly great project for Simonton? Tens of thousands of people viewing our products on the Blog Cabin web site and voting on their favorite options, nationwide coverage of the installation of Simonton windows and a special on-camera interview with a Simonton spokesperson. This project also has potential for being showcased on segments of other DIY Network shows, including BATHtastic!, Desperate Landscapes, House Crashers, Kitchen Impossible, and Yard Crashers. Best of all, the home will be given away to a lucky Blog Cabin website visitor once it's completed!

Decorum Named "Best of 101 New Products for 2010"

The editors of Professional Builder and Professional Remodeler magazines have combed through product information from hundreds of companies to select the "101 Best New Products of 2010." No surprise --- Decorum by Simonton is included as a winner in this prestigious competition!

"Decorum by Simonton is a terrific example of how a company can provide homeowners with exactly what they want," says Sid Spear, vice president of sales and marketing. "People like the look of wood, but not the inherent problems of wood related to long-term maintenance. The Decorum line allows builders and remodelers to offer homeowners the authentic look of woodgrain interiors without maintenance hassles. These windows are also extremely energy-efficient. That's a win-win situation for everyone."

According to Spear, sales of the Decorum line are already higher than anticipated. "This indicates to us that consumers are eager to select aesthetic features to add to the overall interior and exterior beauty of their homes," says Spear.

Both Professional Builder and Professional Remodeler magazines featured Decorum in their November issue as part of their "101 Best New Products" story along with promoting the product on their HousingZone.com site.
